NEW YORK AND NATIONWIDE — PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP HAD MAJOR GAINS WITH NEW YORK’S JEWISH VOTERS, more than those of the same faith in other parts of the United States, suggests a Fox News exit poll on which the Jewish News Syndicate has reported. According to that poll of 4,235 New Yorkers, 46% of respondents who identify as Jews backed President-elect Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. The number of Jewish respondents comprised 8% of the entire group surveyed. Among Brooklyn’s Orthodox Jews, in particular, Trump gained six percentage points over his 2020 performance, particularly among Jews skittish about both the Israel-Hamas war and antisemitic attacks and protests that have happened around the city.

Steven Windmueller, professor emeritus of Jewish communal studies at Hebrew Union College, told JNS that many Jewish voters likely split their tickets, voting for Trump for president but selecting Democratic candidates down-ballot. “We must acknowledge the rise of the Orthodox vote in NY as being increasingly significant,” Windemueller told JNS. Moreover, a number of Yeshiva students attending election night parties expressed enthusiasm for Trump’s victory and for what they view as his support for Israel.

However, nationwide, a widely-referenced exit poll from Edison Research shows that only 21% of U.S. Jews voted for Trump. Fox’s own polls show a slightly higher number of Jews voting for Trump: at 32%.
