MTA drivers banned from store after fight with manager
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS – A MARKET IN Brooklyn Bridge Park’s ritzy Pier 6-adjacent apartments has banned all MTA employees from its premises following an unspecified confrontation between a bus driver and a store manager, reports Gothamist. The store, Town Market, is located at the end of the B63 bus route. The Transit Workers’ Union told Gothamist that drivers frequently use the bathroom at Town Market for bathroom breaks, and that the store had filed a complaint over a driver’s behavior; MTA officials said that the driver no longer works for the agency. The store’s sign reads that all MTA workers are banned pending an MTA investigation into the incident, and that its bathrooms are not public.
While there is a nearby public restroom at the end of Pier 6, TWU bus chief JP Patafio told Gothamist that the walk was sometimes too long for time-crunched drivers; Patafio also said that drivers across the city are frequently forced to make arrangements with local businesses to use restrooms on breaks due to a lack of widely accessible public facilities.
