City’s smallest school P.S. 25 faces closure
BED-STUY — PUBLIC SCHOOL 25, THE SMALLEST SCHOOL in the five boroughs, with just 55 students as of last year across grades K-5, faces closure by the city. The Department of Education says that the school is not of sufficient size to offer a solid educational and extracurricular program. While News12 Brooklyn reported that discussion of the school’s potential closure began in 2017, present-day parents said they were unaware of the possible shuttering and told the channel they would prefer their children to stay with their friends.
The DOE said that they would collaborate with students to ensure that they go to the schools of their choice following the potential closure., while teachers will be relocated to other schools. Officials also said parents would have more chances to comment soon.
