Trump wins Penn., Wisc., declares victory with 277 electoral votes
NATIONWIDE – FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP has almost certainly won the 2024 election as of Wednesday morning, having secured 277 of a needed 270 electoral votes after carrying swing states Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, reports the AP, which after 5 a.m. called the race for Trump. Several other media outlets called the race for Trump starting on Tuesday, as the former President appeared poised to win both the electoral college and popular vote. Vice President Harris had not conceded on Tuesday night, while Trump celebrated the likely win at his election night party in Florida, giving a victory speech to an audience of supporters that included Tesla and X head Elon Musk. Several world leaders, including Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the U.K.’s Keir Starmer, had reached out to congratulate Trump by Wednesday morning.
Republicans were also predicted to take control of the Senate, while several contested House races left the other Congressional body’s control too close to call.
