Share your Coney Island history artifacts at upcoming Show & Tell
CONEY ISLAND — THE CONEY ISLAND HISTORY SHOW & TELL is coming to southern Brooklyn’s historic recreation center on Saturday, Nov. 16. Presenting this interactive reminiscence event are the Coney Island History Project and Brooklyn Public Library’s Coney Island Branch, 1901 Mermaid Avenue at West 19th Street, on that Saturday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tricia Vita, Show & Tell’s presenter, will share items from the Coney Island History Project’s collection, including a stereoscope, stereoview photos and keepsakes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Vita holds a certificate in reminiscence and life story work, creates storytelling workshops at senior centers, and records oral histories for the Coney Island History Project. Attendees are also invited to bring relevant photographs, paper ephemera or other small objects of personal significance. Coney Island History Show & Tell is free of charge. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. RSVP on Eventbrite.
The Show & Tell project launched via Zoom during the pandemic, with guests sharing their souvenirs from Coney Island’s amusement parks and family photos and memorabilia.
