Greenlight Bookstore to celebrate release of new Murakami book
FORT GREENE — AUTHOR HARUKI MURAKAMI’S new novel is coming to Brooklyn on the first day of its English-language release through a midnight launch party at Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene later this month. The novel, “The City and Its Uncertain Walls,” which was released in Japanese last year, follows a man whose journey to find his lost love brings him to remote and fantastical places; it is described as a “love letter to magical realism,” as well as an ode to books and libraries.
Greenlight’s Murakami Midnight party is being held in concert with several other launch events at bookstores across the country, and will feature raffles, trivia, exclusive merch and other fun surprises for fans. Music buffs can also enjoy a specially curated playlist of songs mentioned in Murakami’s work. The author frequently intertwines favorite albums into his writing; according to Billboard, “The City” highlights the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” soundtrack, along with the work of Paul Desmond, Tchaikovsky and others.
Greenlight’s party will take place on Monday, Nov. 18 starting at 10:30 p.m.; tickets are for sale on EventBrite.
