Trial date set for Adams in bribery case
CITYWIDE – MAYOR ADAMS WILL stand trial on federal bribery charges beginning April 21 of next year, reports Politico, just two months before the city’s Democratic mayoral primary. Judge Dale Ho on Friday set the date in Manhattan federal court, saying that he believes “it’s important for the public to have an answer” on Adams’ guilt before the public heads to the polls in June and that he anticipates the trial to last four to six weeks. The mayor’s lawyers have pushed for an early trial, arguing that the mayor cannot effectively campaign with scandals and court dates hanging over his head.
Adams is accused of taking luxury gifts and illegal campaign contributions in exchange for doing favors for the Turkish government, including pressuring the FDNY to approve an allegedly fire-unsafe Turkish consulate building.
