Update: Police identify stabbed man in Coney subway
CONEY ISLAND – POLICE HAVE NOW identified the man killed at the Coney Island – Stillwell Avenue subway station on Tuesday night as Timothy Rudolph, age 54, of the Bronx. Officers responding to a 911 call for an assault at the station shortly before midnight on Tuesday discovered Rudolph with a stab wound in the back; he was transported to NYU Langone Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
ABC News now reports that Rudolph had been involved in a dispute with an unknown man on the platform, which escalated into a physical fight, during which the man stabbed Rudolph in his thigh and back. Rudolph then retreated to an idling train car, where he collapsed. The suspect, described as a man in his thirties, with a bald head, last seen wearing a green shirt and aqua shorts, may have fled to Stillwell Avenue.
Police say there have been no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing. ABC reports that homicides have nearly doubled in 2024, with nine so far this year, compared to five by this time in 2023.
