CITYWIDE – THE CITY COUNCIL’S Committees on Fire and Emergency Management, Oversight and Investigations, and Hospitals on Friday were set to hold a joint oversight hearing on ambulance response times across the city, which the council says have risen since the pre-pandemic period. According to the Mayor’s Management Report, the average EMS emergency response time has increased by more than a minute since 2019, from 6 minutes and 22 seconds to 7 minutes and 23 seconds, with an increase of 20 seconds in just the last fiscal year.

The Committees will examine the increase, including disparities between boroughs, as well as emergency room intake and patient transfer timeliness, and will also seek information from the FDNY regarding ambulance availability and EMT staffing.

The hearing is set for Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. and will be livestreamed from the Council Chambers at City Hall.
