Upgrade of pedestrian ramps across Brooklyn to begin Monday, Oct. 28
BOROUGHWIDE — THE CITY WILL BEGIN upgrading sidewalk pedestrian ramps across Brooklyn starting Monday, Oct. 28. Construction will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and possibly on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The NYC Department of Design and Construction, which is managing the project (identified as HWPR23K1), will issue neighborhood notices in advance of the work. Driveways and loading docks may be temporarily affected but emergency vehicles will have access at all times, DDC said in a release. The anticipated completion date of the $12 million project is fall 2026.
The work is being done partially to comply with an agreement made as a result of a 2019 lawsuit by the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, representing disabled individuals unable to navigate the city’s sidewalks. New and upgraded pedestrian ramps will include a red or white detectable warning surface to help guide people with visual disabilities.
