The 20th Annual Junior Fall Showcase was also staged at Maimonides Park and included some of the finest junior baseball talent in the PSAL. The players were determined to demonstrate their ability to play baseball at the next level.

The showcase, which was held Saturday (Oct. 21), opened with speed in the 60-yard dash, as outfielder Jack Rosado of East Side Community High School recorded a 6.85 and outfielder Jonathan Stern of Bronx High School of Science followed in a time of 6.93.

Brooklynites who participated — and their times — included Midwood’s Brandon Sanchez, 7.10; and Transit Tech’s Angel Garcia, 7.22

The surprise on the pitching mound was two junior hurlers breaking the 80-mph threshold. Nicholas Kumbatovic of McKee/Staten Island Tech High School registered eighty-two mph.

He was followed by Herbert H. Lehman Campus right-hander Kevan Luciano at 80 mph. Brooklyn Tech’s Jake Rapoport was clocked at 77 mph.

Several infielders scored well on arm strength coupled with good range and actions. Brooklynites included Elijah Clemente, Bushwick Campus; Patrick Desesin, Midwood; Trey Young, John Jay High School; Enrique Florian and Jacob Sibley, High School for Telecommunications; and Transit Tech’s Rafael Gomez Fermin.

In fact, the power tool was on full display when Garcia went a yard over the left field fence. The list of locals who were able to demonstrate skill with the bat includes Rainie Gonell Sanchez, George Westinghouse High School; Jensen Noam Morales Ben, Bushwick Campus; and Midwood’s Brandon Sanchez.
Good power ratings were exhibited by Angel Garcia and Rafael Gomez Fermin of Transit Tech and Shrey Vertes of Brooklyn Technical High School.
