Following violent attacks, MTA launches PR campaign featuring transit workers
CITYWIDE — THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (MTA) on Wednesday launched a PR campaign starring everyday transit workers, following a number of highly publicized, violent attacks in the subways and on buses.
“By sharing their stories, we’re bridging a gap between transit workers and the communities they serve,” MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said in a statement. “This campaign is an opportunity to foster greater appreciation and respect for transit workers and their contributions to the fabric of our daily lives and the city as a whole.”
Transit Workers Union Local 100 has filed a formal grievance against MTA, saying that the agency fails to protect workers from violent assaults by passengers, according to ABC News.
In addition to the PR campaign, MTA is piloting new safety measures, including no-standing zones on some subway platforms and electronic monitors on buses.
