NEW YORK — Keeping it cool as the campaign fires up in the home stretch:  Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris waves as she boards Air Force Two at LaGuardia International Airport, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, in New York. Harris did a whirlwind set of interviews this week with ABC daytime talk show “The View,” Howard Stern’s radio show and “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” She spoke of a proposal to help people who must simultaneously raise children and function as caregivers for aging parents.

Political analysts warn that Harris will need to articulate more clearly how her administration will differ from President Biden’s should she win the election, for which early voting has already begun in some states. Harris has already stated that she will appoint a Republican to serve in her cabinet.

Before that, it was an exemplar of biodiversity with healthy trees, plants and animal life.

“Illegal mining affects the ecosystem in every way … it leads to degraded land. There are no trees. The water sources are drying up; it’s polluted by mercury,” Mosquera told the Associated Press.

INDIA — The more dramatic the story, the more intricate the makeup: An Indian man applies makeup on artist Krishna Shukla, 14, dressed up as Hindu God Laxman, on Oct. 9, ahead of a religious procession in Prayagraj, northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, India, during the Dussehra festival. Also known as Vijayadashami, the festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, specifically the day Rama killed demon King Ravana, who had abducted Rama’s wife, Sita. The feast is celebrated on the tenth day of the lunar month of Ashvin, which this year falls on Oct. 12. Devotees immerse clay statues of the main characters into water, where they dissolve. In some parts of India, they burn effigies of the evil ones.

Vijayadashami also heralds preparations for Diwali, a key Hindu tradition, the festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.
