City, state to increase security at Jewish sites ahead of Oct. 7, holidays
STATEWIDE — MAYOR ADAMS ON Tuesday announced that the NYPD would have an “enhanced deployment” at synagogues and in Jewish neighborhoods ahead of the one-year anniversary of last year’s Oct. 7 attack, reports CBS News, and during the Jewish High Holy Days this month. Later on Tuesday, in response to news of an Iranian missile launch at Israel, Adams wrote on X that he was “praying for Israel,” while police reportedly ramped up security measures. At a Wednesday press briefing, the mayor and police officials clarified that the police presence would include additional cameras, the visible presence of armed officers and K-9 teams, as well as a security plan developed with Jewish community leaders. Adams also said that the city expects large protests on Oct. 7, and stated that there would be “zero tolerance for those who violate the law, impede traffic and damage property.”
Gov. Hochul separately wrote following the Iranian missile barrage that she had directed state police to patrol “at-risk locations,” but clarified that there were “no reported threats to New Yorkers at this time.”
