City Council blasts Adams for bypassing legal process in 4 ballot proposals
CITY HALL — THE NYC COUNCIL issued a statement on Tuesday blasting Mayor Eric Adams for bypassing the lawmaking process in placing four out of six proposals on the ballot in November’s General Election. The legal process normally allows 271 days for public review, but Proposals two through six “were approved to advance less than two days after their public release,” the Council said. The proposals were “hastily created” by Adams’ Charter Revision Commission, would increase costs and delays and would make city government less responsive to New Yorkers, the Council claims. Ballot Proposal three, for example, would give the public less time to examine the mayor’s proposed budget. Information on the impact of all six ballot proposals can be found at the council’s website.
Adams’ proposals blocked the City Council from putting its own legislation — which would have increased the Council’s oversight of more of Adams’ commission appointments — on the ballot, NY1 reports.
