Brooklyn Democratic Party organizational meeting recap: Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn is reelected

BK Dems usher in a new era of unity and progress, welcoming a diverse & qualified slate of executive & county committee leaders.

Brooklyn — The Kings County Democratic County Committee Organizational Meeting successfully convened recently, ushering in new leadership and resulting in the re-election of Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn.

The transparent and efficient meeting, held at the New York Marriot at the Brooklyn Bridge, resulted in the filling of vacancies and the election of Executive Committee Officers and County Committee Leaders. The election of officers was conducted by the Party’s District Leaders (with two elected District Leaders representing each Assembly District).

Election of Executive Committee Officers for 2024-2026

Assemblymember and District Leader (AD 42) Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn was re-elected to serve a third term as the Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair.
Bichotte Hermelyn, who began serving as Brooklyn’s first woman and first Black woman Democratic County Party Chair in January 2020, said:

“I am deeply honored to be re-elected as Chair to continue to strengthen and unite our Party. With less than 40 days until the pivotal General Election, my commitment is stronger than ever towards uniting our Party and uplifting Brooklynites by winning the White House, maintaining control of the Senate, flipping the House blue, and electing Democrats across our great borough and state.”

Henry Butler (AD 56) was re-elected as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee, and Nancy Tong (AD 47) was re-elected as Secretary.

Election of County Committee Officers for 2024-2026

In addition, the following County Committee Officers were elected for the 2024-2026 term:

  • Arleny Alvarado-McCalla (AD 54) was re-elected to serve as the County Committee Chair by an overwhelming majority.
  • 1st Vice Chair: Anthony Jones – (District Leader, AD-55)
  • 2nd Vice Chair: Michael Boomer – (District Leader, AD-57)
  • 3rd Vice Chair: Anthony Beckford – (District Leader, AD-43)
  • 4th Vice Chair: Jacqui Painter – (District Leader, AD-51)
  • 5th Vice Chair: Julio Peña III – (District Leader, AD-51)
  • 6th Vice Chair: Renee Collymore (AD-57)
  • 7th Vice Chair: Hon. Mark Partnow (AD-59)
  • 8th Vice Chair: Council Member Susan Zhuang (AD-60)
  • Treasurer: Jean Joseph (AD-41)
  • Assistant Treasurer: Yamil Speight Miller (AD-54)
  • Secretary: Sabrina Gates – (BK Dems Deputy Director) (AD-52)
  • 1st Assistant Secretary: Alan Rocoff (AD-48)
  • 2nd Assistant Secretary: Pamela D. King
  • Farquharson (AD-60)
  • Sergeant-at-Arms Mohammed Razvi (AD-44)

Alvarado-McCalla said:

“I’m honored to continue serving as the first-ever Latina County Committee Chair, and I will relentlessly continue to champion the diverse needs of Democrats across our borough. I thank the County Committee Members who supported me, and look forward to working with all our members to keep Brooklyn Blue as a united and inclusive Party.”

Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn thanked the Kings County Democratic County Committee for a successful Organizational Meeting and congratulated the newly-elected and re-elected Party Leaders:
