Subway collision fatality count rises again as police investigate how man got on tracks
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A SUBWAY TRAIN STRUCK A PERSON at the Rockaway Avenue station in Bed-Stuy on Monday morning, Sept. 30, causing extensive rush-hour delays and interrupting service in both directions between the Brooklyn stations of Hoyt-Schermerhorn in Downtown Brooklyn and Broadway Junction, the MTA reported at 9:19 a.m.
The victim was on the Manhattan-bound C line tracks for unknown reasons when a train entered the station, police and transit sources told the Daily News. Although the train operator tried braking to avoid hitting the man, he was not able to stop in time. Investigators are trying to identify him. Manhattan-bound C train service had resumed, but the MTA recommended that commuters use the above-ground B-25 bus.
This latest incident is the latest subway collision involving a commuter during September. Two weeks ago, on Sept. 16, an 11-year-old boy was killed while train surfing. In other cases, individuals had been pushed to the tracks.
