CITYWIDE — LAWYERS FOR MAYOR Adams on Monday sought to have dismissed a bribery charge filed against the mayor last week, reports the New York Times, citing a recent controversial Supreme Court ruling that narrowed the scope of anti-bribery laws, making after-the-fact “gratuity” gifts difficult to bring charges against. Adams is accused of, among other things, accepting lavish gifts and donations from the Turkish government and Turkish individuals in exchange for pressuring the Fire Department to allow the early opening of a Turkish consular building that had not passed inspections. Adams’ legal team argued that his messages to the FDNY were non-threatening and that aiding donors is routine activity for elected officials.

Following Adams’ intervention with the FDNY, a Turkish official allegedly messaged him, calling him “a true friend of Turkey,” according to the indictment.
