Russia’s chief Rabbi visited Satmars in Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — RUSSIA’S CHIEF RABBI, RABBI BEREL LAZAR, VISITED THE SATMAR REBBE, Horav Zalmen Leib, during his current trip to the United States. The two religious leaders spent over an hour discussing the state of Russian Jewry, the impact of Chabad emissaries in the former Soviet Union and the historical relationship between the Chabad and Satmar communities, according to both CrownHeights.info and Anash.org.
Rabbi Lazar arrived in New York at the head of a group of one hundred supporters of his institutions to participate in the annual Selichot prayers at the Ohel. The Rebbe expressed admiration for Rabbi Lazar’s work with Yemenite and Iranian Jews, along with his educational initiatives.
Rabbi Zalman Leib Markowitz, an educator involved in these efforts, also joined the meeting. Rabbi Lazar presented the Rebbe with a copy of his new book, Shlach Lachmecha, and the two exchanged New Year blessings.
Rabbi Lazar arrived in New York at the head of a group of 100 supporters of his institutions to participate in the annual Selichot prayers at the Ohel that are recited after the close of Shabbat and Havdalah on the Saturday night prior to Rosh Hashanah.
