Sen. Roxanne Persaud celebrated 19 exceptional individuals at Annual Power 19 awards

BROOKLYN — ON WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25, SEN. ROXANNE PERSAUD HOSTED THE POWER 19 AWARDS for New York’s 19th Senatorial District. Individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the community through service, advocacy, academic excellence and empowerment were recognized. 

The Power 19 honorees included: Baitul Mamur Masjid & Community Center, Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, Paerdegat Squadron, Carol Barnes, Jaylon Blair, Yolande Agnes Miranda Cadore, Krystle Charlemagne, Asshur K. Cunningham, Tashia D. King, Judith Naraine, Karen & Damian Placide, John Rullan, Nellie Santiago, a former NY State Senator representing Bushwick and Cypress Hills; Mark Tanis, Keila Tavarez, Ethel W. Thompson, Andrew D. Walcott and Cynthia Whitaker

Persaud emphasized the importance of celebrating those who work tirelessly for community growth and leadership through acts of kindness, and that the candidates she seeks for each year’s award need to “exemplify a selfless dedication to service, tirelessly working for community empowerment and growth.”
