Newly-unsealed indictment charges Mayor Adams on several counts of bribery, fraud and improper solicitation
MANHATTAN — A 57-PAGE INDICTMENT AGAINST MAYOR ADAMS was unsealed around 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to several news sources. The Mayor is being charged with bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, conspiracy to receive campaign contributions by foreign nations, wire fraud and solicitation of a contribution by a foreign nation.
These charges have emerged from the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office investigation and scrutiny of allegations that Turkey’s government funneled illegal donations into Adams’ 2021 campaign fund when he was mayor.
The investigation also examined communications between Adams and five other foreign nations. The indictment chronicles Adams’ actions for the past decade, since his inauguration a decade ago as Brooklyn borough president, when he was accused of accepting and soliciting improper valuable benefits.
The mayor, speaking after the indictment summary, said it was“a painful day,” and said, “We are not surprised at all at this.” He declared that he will continue to do his job as mayor, and that his administration will continue to do their jobs. “This is what we do as New Yorkers.”
The Rev. Herbert Daughtry, Presiding Prelate of House of the Lord Church in Boerum Hill, where Adams has attended for years, also spoke briefly, pledging to support him and saying, “We are not about to give up.”
Other supporters of Adams, including Hazel Dukes, a 92-year-old church elder, and president of the NAACP New York State Conference, also spoke during the press conference at Gracie Mansion, saying that they will support and pray for him.
