Memorial blood drive honoring Lodge leader sees record turnout
EAST FLATBUSH — THE 6TH ANNUAL EDWARD SWIRE MEMORIAL BLOOD DRIVE, which State Sen. Kevin Parker (D-21) sponsored last weekend, brought in 70 donors — a record turnout, his office reported. Parker held the drive in collaboration with Sons of a King Lodge #123 at Vanderveer Park United Methodist Church at 3114 Glenwood Road. The event united community members for a shared goal of saving lives through blood donation.
“Organizing this blood drive in memory of Edward Swire continues to be a truly humbling experience,” said Parker. “The overwhelming participation we witnessed is a powerful reminder of our community’s commitment to one another. Every donation represents hope and a chance at life for those in need.”
Likewise, Worshipful Master Fitzgerald C. Boyce II from Sons of a King Lodge #123 acknowledged the community’s generosity and commitment.
Edward Swire, who died in 2015 according to a memorial service bulletin from Prince Hall Lodge in Manhattan, attended schools in the borough, including what is now the Brooklyn Ethical Culture School. He held leadership positions within the Prince Hall Lodge.
