CITYWIDE — FEDERAL AUTHORITIES EXECUTED search warrants at the home of New York City’s new, interim Police Commissioner Thomas Donlon on Friday, he revealed in a brief statement issued through NYPD’s press department Saturday night.

Donlon said authorities  “took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department.” He added, “This is not a department matter, and the department will not be commenting.”

Donlon replaced his predecessor, former Commissioner Edward Caban, on Sept. 12 after Caban resigned following an FBI raid at his home. Caban’s twin brother James Caban is also entangled in a federal investigation, along with numerous top Adams administration officials.

Most recently, Donlon acted as CEO and co-founder of the security firm Global Security Resolutions. He formerly served as the FBI’s Chief of the National Threat Center’s Section and previously was Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s New York Counter-terrorism Division. A source told NBC that investigators were looking into whether he improperly stored classified documents or sensitive materials from these previous positions at his home.
