Over 1,000 runners gathered to honor Chris Hoban, a police officer slain in the line of duty in 1988 when he was only 26 years old. Now, Xaverian High School, Hoban’s alma mater, hosts the annual Police Officer Chris Hoban Memorial Run.
On Sunday, Sept. 15, runners gathered on Shore Road at 10:30 a.m. along with the Hoban family, NYPD, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, Assemblymember Alex Brook-Krasy and Councilmember Justin Brannan. Runners raced five miles along the promenade to the Verrazano Bridge and back.
“On this beautiful day that Chris gave us, let’s not forget the sacrifices of those who came before us and let’s reflect upon the extraordinary amount of courage it takes to be a cop in the city every day,” Brannan said.
