NYU Langone’s New Fort Hamilton facility offers state-of-art diagnostic center
FORT HAMILTON — NYU LANGONE OPENED A NEW LOCATION that offers cutting-edge diagnostic technology to detect certain diseases early. NYU Langone Radiology-Fort Hamilton, on the third floor of 8721 5th Avenue, offers cutting edge scans to diagnose disease, from breast cancer screening to the bone density tests that identify osteoporosis.
The recently-opened location includes a full-service, state-of-the-art breast imaging center, with 3D mammography, dedicated breast ultrasounds, multimodality breast biopsies, and advanced localization techniques — all in a light-filled, carpeted, soothing space. New artificial intelligence technology helps the radiologists interpret mammograms more accurately and help detect breast cancer earlier. Dr. Samantha Heller, M.D., is the section chief for breast imaging for Manhattan and Brooklyn. NYU Langone Radiology-Fort Hamilton also offers bone density testing to identify osteoporosis, said Soterios Gyftopoulos, M.D., MBA, chief of radiology at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, who works with Dr. Heller.
“It’s very cheerful and well-designed,” added Heller. “Getting a mammogram can produce anxiety for some, so it was important to create a welcoming environment.”
