CITYWIDE —  MORE INFORMATION HAS surfaced regarding the abrupt resignation on Saturday of City Hall’s top attorney. Chief Counsel Lisa Zornberg turned in her resignation after Mayor Eric Adams rejected her advice to fire several top administration officials targeted in federal corruption investigations, including public safety advisor Tim Pearson, two sources told the Daily News. Zornberg left after a little over a year on the job, just days after the resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban. The identities of the other top officials Zornberg wanted fired is still not clear, the News said, but her demand to have them fired was described as “an ultimatum.”

Federal investigators have seized cell phones belonging to Caban and his brother James, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks III, his brother Schools Chancellor David Banks, the chancellor’s girlfriend First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and other police officials, THE CITY reported. Top aide Winnie Greco is also under scrutiny. Adams’ Buildings Department commissioner, Eric Ulrich, was indicted last year.
