OCEAN HILL/BROWNSVILLE — ABU BEKR TEMPLE NO. #91 PARTICIPATED on Sept. 9, 2024, in Eagle Academy for Young Men at Ocean Hill’s Career Day, which aims to foster youth development and community engagement. State Sen. Kevin Parker, who also serves as High Priest and Prophet of Abu Bekr Temple, delivered an inspirational speech, emphasizing the role of mentorship in building future leaders. Eagle Academy, under the leadership of Principal Rashad Meade, focuses on empowering young men through academics and character development. This is also part of the philanthropic arm of the Shriners International, formally known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine,an American Masonic society known for its hospitals for children. The Eagle Academy event was part of the Shriners’ national SAM mentorship program, which connects youth with positive role models and has made a significant impact on participants’ lives, according to Sen. Parker.
“Mentorship is not just about guidance; it’s about nurturing potential and building leaders for tomorrow,” Parker said in a press statement. “As a community, we have an obligation to invest in our youth, for they are the very heart of our neighborhoods and the architects of our future.”
