11-year-old becomes youngest fatality in train surfing in Monday’s G train incident
PARK SLOPE — AN 11-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS REPORTEDLY KILLED train surfing on Monday morning, Sept. 16, in an incident that disrupted subway service on the F and G lines in Park Slope. The Daily News reported on Tuesday morning that the youth struck his head on an overhang at the Fourth Ave./Ninth St. stop in Park Slope at about 10:10 a.m. He then fell to the tracks, where an approaching G train ran him over. The boy becomes the youngest subway fatality in recent history and the fourth to die by train surfing this year. The boy’s name was withheld pending family notification, both the Daily News and Patch reported.
While social media posts that dare youth to train surf have gone viral, the MTA has coordinated with city officials and the police to counteract the messages. The MTA indicated that more than 10,650 such posts were removed to date from various social media platforms, according to the Daily News. The transit agency continues to flag such posts.
