‘Cosmologyscape,’ artwork woven from collective dreams, opens in Brooklyn Sept. 22
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A TAPESTRY OF COLLECTIVE DREAMS will cover a cluster of benches in Downtown Brooklyn as part of a participatory art project called Cosmologyscape, Creative Time’s latest commission, opening Sunday, Sept. 22, from 2-5 p.m. at The Plaza at 300 Ashland. After months of public participation, dreams submitted by individuals were culled into one data set and put through a machine learning process to output quilt squares inspired by Lakota visual language and Black quilting traditions. Cosmologyscape opens with a special performance: ‘Owíŋža Íčhiyopatȟapi (for Cosmologyscape),’ a score by Kite for SIX experimental musicians interpreting the digital tapestry of dreams collected on the Cosmologyscape website.
The piece was created by artists Kite and Alisha B Wormsley in partnership with Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and Two Trees. It will be on view from Sept. 20 – Nov. 3, 2024.
