Volunteers encouraged to join weekend community cleanup
BENSONHURST — COMMUNITY CLEANUPS have become a tradition in Bensonhurst and adjacent neighborhoods and business districts of Bath Beach and Gravesend, thanks to Assemblymember William Colton and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang, with the next beautification event scheduled for this Saturday. Colton and Zhuang have been organizing the community cleanup for more than a decade, at a time when the councilmember serving the new 43rd District was his chief-of-staff. The Saturday, Sept. 14, cleanup, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be done in partnership with the Chinese American Social Services Center, and will focus on the vicinity of Seth Low Park. Participants will gather at 29 Bay 25th Street and fan out from there.
“These cleanups are successful because of community participation,” said Colton. “Every time we do one, I am delighted and heartened by the many people of all ages who join in because they understand the importance of giving their time and effort to help beautify the neighborhood they call home.”
