Stringer: ‘Very concerned’ about NYC safety following Caban resignation
CITYWIDE — ‘I’M VERY CONCERNED today about the safety of the city’s residents,” former NYC Comptroller and current mayoral contender Scott Stringer said Thursday following the abrupt resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban. Caban stepped down Thursday after federal agents seized his phone as part of a criminal investigation.
“Mayor Adams’s rudderless and chaotic City Hall has caused dysfunction and a leadership vacuum at the NYPD,” Stringer said in a statement. “Now, Mayor Adams needs to explain why officials he has chosen to serve in his administration keep attracting the attention of federal prosecutors.” Caban’s investigation is one of at least four into Adams administration top officials involving raids and phone seizures.
Adams said at an unscheduled news conference on Thursday that he had appointed security expert Tom Donlon, who formerly served as FBI’s Chief of the National Threat Center’s Section, as acting Commissioner.
