CITYWIDE — PUBLIC ADVOCATE JUMAANE WILLIAMS said on Thursday he was “saddened and angered” at the state of the city, following the abrupt resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban. Caban stepped down Thursday after federal agents seized his phone as part of a criminal investigation. “I’m saddened and angered that this is the place our city is in and hope this step is one in a series toward restoring confidence. This resignation is a correct decision, from an array of options at a moment I wish we weren’t in – one when New Yorkers have little trust in the administration, and little information from the mayor to help restore it,” Williams said in a statement.
Caban’s investigation is one of at least four into Adams administration top officials involving raids and phone seizures.

Adams said at a news conference on Thursday that he had appointed security expert Tom Donlon, who formerly served as FBI’s Chief of the National Threat Center’s Section, as acting Commissioner.
