NYC Police Commissioner Caban to resign following uproar over investigation
CITYWIDE — NYC POLICE COMMISSIONER Edward Caban had been asked by the Adams administration to resign after federal agents seized his phone as part of a criminal investigation, the New York Times reported Thursday. Caban was expected to announce his resignation Thursday, according to the Time’s sources. There are at least four federal investigations into Adams administration top officials involving raids and phone seizures, including Caban. Mayor Adams asked him to step down on Monday, the Times said — though at a news conference with reporters on Tuesday, Adams had denied pressuring Caban to resign.
Federal investigators have seized cell phones belonging to Caban and his brother James, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks III, his brother Schools Chancellor David Banks, First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and top police officials, The City, which originally broke the story, reported Tuesday.
