Myrie calls Caban’s abrupt resignation ‘troubling’
CITYWIDE — “PUBLIC SAFETY REMAINS one of the most pressing concerns for New Yorkers, which makes the NYPD Commissioner’s resignation all the more troubling,” State Sen. Zellnor Myrie (D-20) said in a statement Thursday following the abrupt resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban. Myrie joined a chorus of city officials expressing concern about chaos and instability within the Adams administration. Caban stepped down days after federal agents seized his phone as part of a criminal investigation — just one of at least four investigations into Adams administration top officials. Adams said at an unscheduled news conference on Thursday that he had appointed security expert Tom Donlon, who formerly served as FBI’s Chief of the National Threat Center’s Section, as acting Commissioner.
“At a time when strong, consistent leadership is essential, particularly within our police department, this latest departure only adds to the concerning pattern of instability within the Adams administration,” Myrie said.
