Malliotakis: Caban resignation comes day after 9/11 terror anniversary
CITYWIDE — REP. NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS (R-11) noted in a release Thursday that the abrupt resignation of NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban was announced the day after the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, underscoring the need for the police force to be “fully funded, staffed and focused on keeping New Yorkers safe from the threats of terrorism and the street crime that impacts all five boroughs of our city.” Caban stepped down after federal agents seized his phone as part of a criminal investigation. Adams said at an unscheduled news conference on Thursday that he has appointed security expert Tom Donlon, who formerly served as FBI’s Chief of the National Threat Center’s Section, as acting commissioner.
Malliotakis said that the NYPD has been worn down by “low morale” and a “radical city council.”
