Catbird jewelry celebrates 20 years in Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — BROOKLYN-BORN JEWELRY BRAND CATBIRD is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special event at its flagship store on North 7th St. in Williamsburg on Sept. 14. Entrepreneur Rony Vardi in 2004 used her life savings to open an eclectic boutique, offering everything from clothing and accessories to candles and art supplies. But it was the jewelry — some of which she personally created — that became its biggest hit, and Catbird focused exclusively on using recycled 14-carat gold and diamonds to make rings. The brand is known particularly for stacking rings, bracelets and necklaces. The party will also inaugurate its 20th anniversary’s Birthday Collection line. Catbird and its Jewelry as Poetry expression has expanded nationwide, with stores in Manhattan, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and a new one set to open in San Francisco.
Catbird’s philanthropic outreach is social justice and climate-focused as well, according to the store’s website and The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA), a not-for-profit trade association founded in 1962. A few years ago, the CFDA published a feature on Rony Vardi and Catbird. She has also been featured in Vogue, Bazaar and Women’s Wear Daily.
