Adams appoints Tom Donlon as acting NYC Police Commissioner following Caban’s abrupt resignation
CITY HALL — MAYOR ERIC ADAMS said at an unscheduled news conference on Thursday that he appointed Tom Donlon as acting NYC Police Commissioner following the abrupt resignation of Edward Caban, who stepped down Thursday after federal agents seized his phone as part of a criminal investigation. Caban’s investigation is one of at least four into Adams administration top officials involving raids and phone seizures.
Adams told reporters at the live-stream that he had just learned about the investigation earlier this week. “I was as surprised as you to learn about these inquiries,” he said, adding that Caban’s decision to step down “is the best decision at this time.” He went on to praise Caban’s work during his tenure as the head of NYPD, pointing to a drop in crime, including in the subway system.
Donlon, CEO & co-founder of the security firm Global Security Resolutions, formerly served as the FBI’s Chief of the National Threat Center’s Section and previously was Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s New York Counter-terrorism Division, as well as heading up other important security-related investigations. Adams said he is a Bronx native.
