The Unified Court System (UCS) will observe the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with a ceremony at the 111 Centre St. courthouse on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

The ceremony will honor the three court officers who lost their lives in the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center: Capt. William Harry Thompson, Sgt. Thomas Jurgens and Sgt. Mitchel Wallace. The UCS will also pay tribute to all those who responded to the attacks that day.

Remarks will be delivered by Hon. Norman St. George, first deputy chief administrative judge; Hon. Edwina G. Richardson, deputy chief administrative judge for justice initiatives; and Hon. Adam Silvera, deputy chief administrative judge for New York City Courts. Hon. Ellen Biben, administrative judge of the New York County Supreme Court, Criminal Term, will also address attendees.

Court Officer Jalessa Copeland will perform the National Anthem, and the New York State Courts Pipes and Drums will present a musical tribute. Following the ceremony, there will be a screening of the Emmy-nominated video “9/11 Reflections,” dedicated to the fallen court officers and capturing the experiences of other UCS officers who rushed to the World Trade Center on that day.
