Applications open for new senior affordable housing complex in East Flatbush
EAST FLATBUSH — AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPLEX IN BROOKLYN’S EAST FLATBUSH NEIGHBORHOOD, oriented toward seniors, has units that are starting at $0. Bethany Senior Terraces at 604 East 40th Street includes 58 apartments in the entire building, with rents listed as free, though residents must qualify for Section 8 and pay 30% of their income. Applicants for the lottery must include at least one person aged 62 years and older, although a chart also spells out household size (including one’s parents and children), up to three, along with their respective income caps. The development will also provide housing for people formerly living on the streets, referred to the housing complex by appropriate city agencies. The development also includes amenities such as an attended lobby, community room, greenhouse, bicycle storage and resident storage.
