75-year-old Brooklyn woman conned out of $100,000 in computer-repair scam
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A 75-YEAR-OLD WOMAN was scammed out of $100,00 by a con man she thought would fix her broken computer, police reported Tuesday. The victim, in the vicinity of Pineapple and Hicks streets in Brooklyn Heights, received a phone call from an unknown man at about 2 p.m. on July 9, instructing her to withdraw roughly $100,000 in cash from the bank to fix her computer. The Brooklyn Eagle confirmed this figure with the NYPD following the release of the report.
The victim went to her bank, withdrew the cash and met the man outside, police said. When she noticed her computer wasn’t fixed, she contacted the police, who are now searching for the suspect, described as having a light complexion and last seen wearing a black shirt, brown shorts and beige sneakers. Police describe the case as an act of grand larceny.
