Water main break in Bath Beach causes massive sinkhole
BATH BEACH — A WATER MAIN BREAK EARLY MONDAY MORNING IN BATH BEACH, caused a significant sinkhole that damaged multiple cars, with one nearly falling in. The incident, which occurred on Bay 37th Street around 4:15 a.m., prompted emergency services to shut off the water and begin repairs. The Department of Environmental Protection shut off the water, which stopped the leak. Crews then began pumping out water. The water shutdown is believed to have impacted three residential buildings and seven private dwellings. According to both the WABC-7 broadcast and Google maps, the site of the sinkhole is also near a school.
Commuters in the area may experience delays, particularly on the B82 bus route. NYPD requested a tow truck to remove the damaged car from the sinkhole, according to ABC7.
