BROOKLYN — A 20-YEAR-OLD PAKISTANI NATIONAL, MUHAMMAD SHAHZEB KHAN, was arrested for planning a terrorist attack targeting a Brooklyn Jewish center, reports Gothamist. Khan intended to carry out the attack on Oct. 7, the anniversary of the Hamas attacks, allegedly with “the stated goal of slaughtering, in the name of ISIS, as many Jewish people as possible,” according to a prepared statement from Attorney General Merrick B. Garland that is available on that government agency’s website. Court documents also available on the attorney general’s website provide a chronicle of Khan’s interactions with ISIS contacts. Khan, who also went by the name Shahzeb Jadoon, is being charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted.

“Jewish communities — like all communities in this country — should not have to fear that they will be targeted by a hate-fueled terrorist attack,” said Garland. The Justice Department did not name the Jewish center that was targeted.
