FBI, Justice Dept. foil plan to attack Chabad HQ in Crown Heights
CROWN HEIGHTS/CANADA — A major Jewish Center in Crown Heights was the target of a now-foiled terror plot, with its main instigator now in custody, reports the Jewish Press. Earlier on Monday, Sept. 9, the Brooklyn Eagle reported the arrest of a Pakistani man and Canadian national identified as Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20.
Khan was allegedly planning an attack on Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway on the first anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, attack in Israel, according to the Jewish Press. He shared his plans, requested weapons from contacts who were law enforcement undercover officers, and was arrested Sept. 4 on the Canadian side of the U.S. Canada border. A complaint was filed in federal court in Manhattan after the undercover law enforcement officers became aware of the plot’s imminence.
The FBI New York, Chicago and Los Angeles Field Offices are investigating the case. “The Justice Department is grateful to Canadian law enforcement for their actions in this matter,” the Justice Department said in a statement. The Office of International Affairs of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division is also seeking Khan’s extradition Khan from Canada.
