Elected officials will hold 9/11 memorial service at Seth Low Park
BENSONHURST — TWO ELECTED OFFICIALS IN BENSONHURST ARE SPONSORING A SEPT. 11 MEMORIAL SERVICE on Wednesday. Local residents are invited to join Assemblyman William Colton (D-47) and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D-43) at a memorial service for the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The service takes place at Seth Low Park on Wednesday, September 11 at 11 a.m. “It’s hard to believe, but the horrific attack on the World Trade Center, in which so many innocent lives were senselessly cut short, was 23 years ago,” said Assemblyman Colton in advance of the memorial. “Despite the time that has passed, the pain of that day is still with us.” Councilmember Zhuang said, “This memorial service will show how strong our community is and how those who faced great loss did so with incredible bravery.”
That day, approximately 2,600 perished at the Twin Towers, including 343 New York City firefighters and 71 members of law enforcement, In addition, over 4,300 survivors and first responders have succumbed in the years following the attacks to ailments caused by exposure to toxins released into the air, according to the World Trade Center Health Program.
