NEW HAMPSHIRE — Temps are soon to drop, but the campaign trail remains hot: Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris waves as she steps on stage to address a crowd, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, during a campaign stop, in North Hampton, NH. Harris also gained an endorsement from former Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. A Republican whose father is former Vice President Dick Cheney (the George W. Bush administration), Liz Cheney co-chaired the House of Representatives’ investigation into the Capitol attack of Jan. 6, 2021, which disrupted the certification of President Joe Biden’s win. Ms. Cheney became an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, causing her to lose her 2022 re-election primary.

Speaking at Duke University in Durham, NC, Cheney said, “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this. Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”

ARLINGTON — Breaking out Olympic-level flips is the ultimate party trick: Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Hezly Rivera does a flip before throwing out a ceremonial first pitch before a baseball game between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. Originally from New Jersey, the 16-year-old team Olympic champion now resides in Plano, Texas, with her family and told The Dallas Morning News that she loves her adopted home state.

Rivera not only blended the two sports in her pre-pitch side aerial, she also proved she could throw a strike.

INDIA — Mother Teresa’s presence remains: Nuns of the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Saint Teresa, accompany an elderly woman outside the saint’s tomb on her death anniversary, in Kolkata, India, Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024. Mother Teresa died just 10 days after her 87th birthday and six days after the tragic and untimely death of her friend, Princess Diana of Wales.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 1979 was awarded to Mother Teresa “for her work for bringing help to suffering humanity.”

Warner Brothers will release ‘Joker: Folie A Deux’ internationally on Oct. 2 and in the U.S. on Oct. 4.

INDIA — The cry to protect women is a loud call: People hold candles as they protest against the rape and murder of a resident doctor at a government hospital in early August, in Kolkata, India, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024. The banner reads in the Hindi language: the daughter got education but could not survive. The protests have continued since the Aug. 9 attack, with doctors throughout India demanding tougher laws to protect them — particularly making any attack on on-duty medics an offense without the possibility of bail — an increase in security at hospitals and safe spaces for them to rest.

The doctors say the assault highlights the vulnerability of health care workers in hospitals and medical campuses across India.

GEORGIA — Community gathers in the aftermath of a school shooting: Mourners hold candles during a candlelight vigil for the slain students and teachers at Apalachee High School, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, in Winder, GA. Among the victims were Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14-year-old schoolmates of the shooter — also 14 but charged as an adult. The two adult victims were teachers, Christina Irimie, 53, who was very active in teaching Romanian dance at her local church, Sts. Constantine and Helen, and Richard Aspinwall, 39, a deeply-respected football coach and math teacher.

Several of the students were availing themselves of the grief counseling being offered at the school.

JAKARTA — She’s been preparing for this moment: A girl reacts as Pope Francis arrives at Madya Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024. A marching band, stiff-legged troops and children in traditional Indonesian dress welcomed the first pope to visit in 35 years.

Although Catholics comprise just 3% of Indonesia’s population of 275 million, the archipelago nation is home to the world’s largest Catholic seminary and has long been a top supplier of priests.
