PARK SLOPE — A MURAL OF KOBE BRYANT AND HIS DAUGHTER, GIANNA, NEAR BARCLAYS CENTER IN BOERUM HILL is at risk of demolition as a building undergoes renovations to house a new drugstore. Created by artist Efren Andaluz shortly after the Bryants’ tragic deaths in a Jan. 26, 2020, helicopter crash in California, the mural became a significant community landmark right across from Barclays Center. Despite community support to preserve the artwork, construction began Tuesday to cover the mural with a green wooden wall. The building’s owner plans to donate the gates with the mural to Andaluz, but the future of the mural itself remains uncertain.

Although a Bryant fan, Andaluz wanted to make sure everyone who died was given a tribute, Brooklyn Eagle reporter Jaime Dejesus noted.
