A.G.’s Office releases bodycam footage of man killed by police in Brooklyn
BUSHWICK — BODYCAM FOOTAGE and surveillance video which shows police shooting Andre Joseph Mayfield on a street in Bushwick in the early morning of May 26 was released by state Attorney General Letitia James late Wednesday. The video shows two NYPD officers in their patrol vehicle at the intersection of Central Avenue and Eldert Street following an unrelated call, when they saw Mayfield, armed with a knife, standing near their car. The officers tased Mayfield, causing him to fall. Then Mayfield stood up and strode towards the officers, knife in hand. Both officers discharged their firearms and he collapsed; he was later pronounced dead. James has directed that camera footage obtained during an Office of Special Investigation inquiry be released to the public to strengthen transparency and trust.
The video can be viewed on the Attorney General’s website. Warning: It contains content that viewers may find disturbing.
