BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — BROOKLYN’S JORALEMON STREET subway tunnel, the 1.1-mile tunnel connecting the 4 and 5 lines between Manhattan and Brooklyn and the entire G line will receive 5G wireless connectivity, MTA announced Wednesday. The Grand Central Times Square 42 Street Shuttle was the first to be outfitted with 5G wireless, an event celebrated by agency honchos including MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber at a press event Wednesday. The connectivity is a result of a public-private partnership agreement with Boldyn Network, and includes cell carriers Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile. First responders will also have access to the FirstNet Network.

The 5G service will be added to the entire system, including the 4, 5 and 6 line north of Grand Central, over several years during other construction, Lieber said in a statement. “Every time we go to do work in a tunnel, we’re going to say to our friends at Boldyn, come on in. Be ready, pull that cable. Install that infrastructure. Take advantage of the outage.”
