Agoda Travel agency gets F rating for incomplete or canceled bookings
CITYWIDE — THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU IS WARNING NEW YORKERS about a Manhattan-based online travel booking agency that customers claim abandoned them and ruined vacations. The BBB is alerting consumers about Agoda, a service that began operating in 2005, after receiving 270 consumer complaints filed within the past year. The customers have alleged that Agoda fails to complete, or cancels, customers’ flights, hotel stays and rental bookings for no apparent reason.
Some customers alleged that they made reservations through Agoda, but when they arrived at their hotel for check-in, they were told their booking was never received. Others had Agoda cancel their hotel stays before the check-in date, but failed to notify the customer. When they tried to reach customer service, they got no response. “Complaints to BBB indicated that people said they lost money and had their vacations ruined because Agoda was not consistently able to provide responsive service, despite their claims,” said Claire Rosenzweig, president & CEO of the Metro New York BBB. “Consumers have told us that they’ve lost hundreds, even thousands of dollars in canceled travel.”
At the time of this alert, the 270 complaints have earned Agoda an F rating with BBB.
