WILLIAMSBURG — CREST HARDWARE, A PROMINENT HARDWARE SHOP in North Brooklyn, closed down on Saturday, Aug. 31. Hundreds of locals gathered to say their farewells during the Crest Farewell Fest, where the store’s remaining inventory and memorabilia were sold off. The event featured music, food and tributes from customers who cherished the store’s community spirit and unique character. Crest Hardware lost its lease at 558 Metropolitan Avenue and will be closing permanently, with the property likely to be developed in the future. Owner Joe Franquinha and his wife, Liza, expressed their gratitude to the community for 62 years of business in Williamsburg. It was announced that Crest Hardware was closing in July, according to Brownstoner and the Brooklyn Eagle after the landlord opted to not renew the merchant’s lease.

According to Crest Hardware’s website, Joe’s father, Manny Franquinha, opened the business in 1962 with a focus on home and community improvement. Crest touted itself as “a true family-owned hardware store,” and “Through his dedication and love for all things innovative, Joseph and the Crest Family have transformed the definition of Hardware Store.”
